Linda moved to St. Augustine, Fl. in 1994 and decided it was time to pursue a long held desire to paint. She began by taking drawing classes, studied books on painting & drawing and practiced daily until she felt prepared to pick up brushes and paints. She joined art associations, painted with friends and was invited to join a co-op gallery in Jacksonville Beach,Fl. From these experiences other galleries, workshops and friendships led to a new career.
After graduating from college with an AA in Liberal Arts & no clear idea of what direction she wanted in life's work, she chose the travel industry & worked with airlines & travel agencies while attending classes in education. Wherever she traveled , art museums & galleries were always a priority., and she knew , at some time in her life, she would paint.
Marriage, family & job transfers followed until retirement & the time to pursue the goal of art arose.
Linda has received many awards including the Emmett Fritz prize in 2004. Her works hang in private collections in the US, Great Britain and Europe. She has also completed corporate commissions, hung in designer shows, one woman shows, and teaches classes in oil painting, She is represented by several galleries.
Linda is on the St. Augustine Art Association Board of Directors and is a member of the St. Johns County Cultural Council, Jacksonville Coalition For the Visual Arts, and National Society of American Pen Women. She is also a member of Landscape Artists International and 2 local plein air painting groups as well International Plein.Air Painters.
As a breast cancer survivor, Linda feels that painting held a major role in tolerating treatment and recovery. It also led to other endeavors with fund raising for breast cancer research, active participation in fund raising walks & donations to research and support foundations.
Inspiration is close at hand in St. Augustines' varied landscapes which include marshes & estuaries, Atlantic beaches &charming city streets. It is an artist's paradise. Other influences are gathered from her New England childhood, travels to Europe & painting workshops in France.
